Debut Single by Reggae-Roots Ensemble Single Release Date 8/3/2010
The Captives (Gainesville, FL) debut single “Right On” released on Element Records is a superb addition to anycollector of vinyl, especially if you like a littlereggae in your collection! The band, based out of roots music heartland that is Gainesville, FL, recorded and engineered their music at their guitarists analog 16 track home studio, known as Vertical Bird.
As soon as you drop the needle on this record and hear the opening guitar riffs and full band stabs you’ll soon be taken into a sweet and soulful reggae styled bliss. A sweet horn section melody kick off the song just before the vocals. Fat bass and drums guide the track. A tasteful ‘saloon’ style piano is matched by a chill organ all held down by the almighty tambourine.
The Captives have successfully taken a popular phrase, “Right On” and have made it something totally hip and cool for 45rpm lovers. The B-side, "Lift Me Up," is a dub style groove, filled with lush echo and reverb treatments. The unique slide guitar helps the vocals reach their peak as they already have proven to do on "Right On."

Soulphonics & Ruby Velle return to FL in MAY for two shows!!!
The group has two awesome shows planned as they'll be back to Gainesville, FL at the Atlantic on Friday, May 14th with G'ville reggae-rockers, The Captives, starting the show off rite! On Saturday, May 15th Soulphonics & Ruby Velle will close out the night just before midnight at TROPICAL HEATWAVE festival in Tampa (Ybor City) at the Cuban Club on the El Pasaje Plaza stage. Lee's career began decades ago and has landed him on stages around the world, since the 70's and now The Soulphonics and he will both add one more special performance to their list. As he is already renowned throughout the global funk community, he has had great recent success on his latest record 'My World' with The Expressions, based out of Brooklyn, NY.

In February, Soulphonics & Ruby Velle will return to Florida in support of their single release and just to return to their old stomping grounds. They will be in Gainesville, FL for a special show at Common Grounds. 'The Southern Super Soul Revue' is a co-bill with The Legendary J.C.'s who have been wowing crowds for over a decade. Gainesville, get ready for a killer show on Thursday, Feb 25th!
On Friday, Feb 26th they will be at the Social in Orlando, FL. This will be a great show with The Duppies starting the night off with their energetic ska/reggae sounds!

Hammond organist, Spencer Garn, and his newest band ‘Psychedelic Organ’ are set to release an album packed full of psyched-out organ grooves this spring. This four piece band is a slammin' addition to the world of soul stretching, organ bending psychedelic rock-n-roll, a true tribute to the 60's underground garage rock era. The guys recorded the album in December 2009 and the release date is to be announced very soon.

Sometime in early 2009 the Spencer Garn Quartet recorded a demo track for Element Records, as the organist responded to our request for something soulful and jazzy, but not mellow jazz. We liked the track so much that we decided to release it as a digi-single, as sort of a teaser to his full length album that is yet to be recorded. There are plans to record said soul-jazz record in early 2010 and studio dates are being looked at for February sessions. We will keep you informed about this. Don't forget to sign Element Records email list for up to date information!
